More Cork wallscrawl. Apologies for the bad quality, I left them in my pocket and they went through the wash. This one's a little blurry, it reads:

"Why do Corkmen piss on the toilet seat?

I'd the good fortune to be at the Hard Working Class Heroes festival last weekend. The bands were great, as was the atmosphere (other than the swing to "Wet" the atmosphere took on the last day). One of the really good bits about the festival was the provision of Andrew's Lane for the after-club. The theatre (or club or whatnot) has been done inside and outside by the Dublin artist Maser. It looks great, and even as a club it seemed worth the visit. The plaque outside the door:

The alley around the corner had plenty of stuff. I really like this one. (there's other stuf that I should certainly get & up)

This guy (girl?) is class. I spotted one of his other ones near the old Mongrel offices a few years ago and foolishly thought it was a one-off curio: ooooh no.

This stuff is all over the city centre (by which, the tourist means Temple Bar). My friend over in the 508 initially pointed out the corners and drain pipes these covered: each is a bit of a gem. This is in no way a catalogue of the ones we saw: there were scores of them.

Though this pic is largely for the small stickers, I love opportunities such as these for people to truly cover a space in all sorts of crap.

Just some more Cork bits from walking around.

I really like stickers. Regardless of how permanent the sticker actually is, they feel less permanent, less aggressive than pieces done in paint. They're small, but it's part of the charm. The little A34 message in shiny acrylic, adhering to the side of traffic cone.

I was recently at the Analog festival for three amazing bands, so took the time to wander around the city a bit (not very much).pillar.

Now this was a particularly strange house (can you click on it for h-res?). Vampire gargoyle over the threshold. Studded door. Hand painted walls. In the centre of the picture is a tree made of barb'd wire, festooned with a crop of dummies(soothers/pacifiers). "Mais non!" you exclaim, "Ca c'est trop diabolique!". Fine:

Really weird. I caught a fleeting glimpse of a man inside, at third floor window, watching the street. Did he do this to the house? Was he real?

Cork :: Hope Street

If you've taken the time to trawl through both the below postings and Cork city, you'll know there are a few ommissions that stick out somewhat; like their perpetrators, loitering, ill at ease, and giving me fouling looks. A good example would be the car park of the north quays.

One other in particular, to such a degree I went out to pick it up and buy it a sandwich:
(Across from FitzGerald's Park, Cork) This one has been around for a long time, and I (everybody) like it more for that- a stencil of a homeless person, getting shabbier over time, fading into the background... Well. It probably couldn't have worked out better.

That's a penguin by the way.

The above is't necessarily in FitzGeralds Park, but in the mouth of an alley facing it. It's your typical good-o alley; secluded and built so that from the outside you can't see down it's length.

Thus, plenty of people have made their mark on the way through. Afew stencils, a number of 'pieces.The frog!

To be honest, I don't really go in for this sort of stuff. Not just the piece above, but the last few. Not that its not good, but.. It feels too far removed from our cities. Murals of pit-bulls wearing ghetto hoodies and posing like rappers.. I don't object to it. I'd just like to see what else they could do.

I do, however, love wallscrawl.

Oh it's so late. So late it's 9am. Anyway: last of the backlog. Places not in Cork, or not quite graffiti. Dublin kicks us in the face repeatedly for graffiti I'm afraid. However, as the impending economic bagelcollapse ..impends, I foresee an era where every city, villlage and township will have their own gang culture, and they'll be throwing paint and stencils everywhich way. We'll get some real pieces up then, rest assured.

Ha! Sleep hallucinations. They genuinely aren't the same things as dreams.

Surprisingly, I'm calling this one GetEmUp!.
Once again through my Co-Conspiring friend Deltaetcetera, these were along O. Plunkett to the Grand Parade. Really like the linework and perspective.

This one is Just For YOU! save the file, prin it out, write something inane in the speech bubble, such as "this got put up, and then disseminated across the intersea". Of course, I make this offer completely without the creators knowledge.. I can't believe I feel the need to say that. My thought is that his person was from some bigger pond, passing through, by the quality of the print etc.

I'd crush that little scumbag kid's face.

Cork:: Notebook Girl

Im going to call her Notebook Girl.
I don't know her gender, nor do I know it's a notebook. Something makes me think it's a girl though, and they ain't got no signature so... So she deserves an erroneous nickname.

I really, really like this stuff. I'll buy her a pint and apologise for assuming her gender. For assuming there's only one of her. I might even check her out, and steal her sketchbook off to the bathroom.

I know that I've lauded plenty of stuff in three posts, but if you don't like what she's done, then you're not waking up properly in the morning. If you draw or write or some such, you know how personal it'd be to wheatpaste prints of your stuff around town. I'd never do it because it would scare the carp out of me, but...
Although I suppose it's not so hard if your stuff is Good...

Once again, piles of pieces, all from Cork. I really hope this is still there; it's as old as the hills, but I think they destroyed it along with that lovely alley of Paul St.. KONG was the first name i really saw on Cork's streets (or remember seeing, which is more important). Either way, I haven't seen anything new from him/her in a while. Which is a real pity. (S)He had style, tact, and taste.

Yon obligatory Vibe pieces! This guy gets a whole granny-basket of points purely for getting up so very much; he's all over the place. Not to mention his stuff is well good. I'm not very into tags, but Vibe puts the effort into being much more original than your average marker-armed whelp...

White ninja? Guy with glasses and well tended-uni-brow? Some sort of.. granny?..

The barely-legible scrawls beneath this guy say "Thats Brilliant" and "Agreed". And its true! Strangely though, this stencil is underground in the UCC Kane bathrooms.

Barrack St. I love things like this. Understated and slightly out of view. Using Stuff lying (growing) around.

RF23 is another anonymous face you see around a lot, but not enough. He had lots of vinyl stickers (lucky bastard), and was generally Class. Either funny, or the tasty side of poignant, or just cool. Crane Lane (the actual lane, not the club on the adjacent street).

Once "saw" a scrawl that said "I love hopeful street art"

These guys are all localised on a sheet of plyboard on N. Main St.: There's loads of them! By volume and qulity, there's something else behind it, but... Who knows. (*hint*)

This guy I really like.. Little lumps of clay stuck to the wall, carved, then varnished. Really, really cool. And they even have that most valuable of modern traits: randomness. In spades. I saw one that i think was about having tea, and another about.. I have no idea. Really really like it though.
We let ourselves down be not ruining those shitty Elysian boards, which surrounded the building site. They were screaming out for defacement, and only a brave few went forward. This piece is cool because it replaces the identical slogan for the Elysian.

Pretty certain this is religious, less certain that its a trail.. This was in Cobh, and I saw more going up to Cork. Circa Easter I think?

Ok, so just maybe I didn't do anything with this for over a year. You'd think that'd mean lots of pics... It.. it doesn't.

Ironically (as far as structure goes), these are the newest (as evidenced by my phone's puny pixellage): Guy's jacks in Crawford Art School, Cork. If you missed their '08 show, you missed out. No actual photo's of the art in the place though...

Cork. You may be lucky enough to live there (0.0019917% of us are). You may also be unlucky enough to live here (0.0019917% of us are).

You may also be lucky enough to have the use of your eyes. You may even have been lucky enough to have been outside and about. Ever. In Cork. On the pavement-roady bits (or streets) that run in between the edifices and cloth-curtained windows and places of religious/commercial worship. Used and abused and disused and loved and ignored. Discarded some. Inhabited most. Connected by the byways.

Most roads run in the normal ways; one ways and pedestrian ways and main ways (we have at least three). They are controlled and kept and safe.

Streets are not like this. They are hemmed in by the places we live and the places we go.

Streets are where the interactions happen.
